ecoEXPLORE and NC Arboretum: Electrofishing Exploration (registration required)
September 14th, 2024 @ 10:00 am
The North Carolina Arboretum
Grab your fins and join us for a morning of freshwater fun as explore Bent Creek to see what gilled friends we can find! We’re partnering with UNCA professor Dr. David Gillette to perform an electrofishing exploration! We’ll carefully use this unique method to get an up close look at the freshwater fish that live in our mountain streams. We’ll discuss how to identify them, the important role they play in our ecosystems, and how they can help us better understand our water quality. Come prepared to get wet!
An important note – For this event professionals will be charging the stream with a small amount of electricity in order to stun freshwater fish. Safety is our top priority. Tall rubber boots or waiters are strongly recommended for this event. If you do not have any tall rubber boots or waiters, please reach out to us via the registration form below and we will do our best to provide some for your youth participant.
Registration is required.
