Lake James State Park: Kayaking 101
To kick off National Safe Boating Week 2024, the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, the North Carolina chapter of the American Canoe Association, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary are hosting beginners’ kayaking safety programs across the state! Join us at Lake James State Park for this unique opportunity that will introduce you to flat-water kayaking at the Paddy’s Creek Access.
Participants will learn about different kayak types, kayaking safety, and basic paddling skills taught by volunteer ACA-certified kayak instructors. A kayak, life jacket, and paddle will be provided for participants, but you can bring your own kayak or equipment if you would like. Participants must be at least 14 years old.
Registration is required, and the program costs $15 plus tax per participant. Typically, this class would cost $50-$100! Click the Register button to sign up on the GetOutdoors Pedal and Paddle registration site. The registration fee is nonrefundable.
Please note: A photographer will be present at each program. By registering, you are agreeing to allow the instructor team, the ACA, the division, or the Coast Guard to use any pictures taken during the event. You will be provided with a link to download the pictures after the event.
